Native Affairs – State of Care - Part 2

Presenter Ward Kamo is joined in studio by caregiver Kate, who, for over four months, nurtured and bonded with a child from CYF (Child, Youth and Family), only to have her removed because as she puts it “they were not Māori”.

It’s an issue amongst the many that has put the CYF process under scrutiny.

Labour's Māori Development Spokesperson Nanaia Mahuta also joins us in studio from Wellington and says in this situation, “It’s an absolute travesty that where there was an option for a child, in a loving household to be given a secure and stable environment.  That ethnicity was the first port of call.”
