Native Affairs - Gone Too Soon

On average one child is killed every 5 weeks as a result of child abuse in New Zealand most of these children are under the age of five and the largest group is less than a year old.

An 8 month old baby joins that list, he is of Ngāti Maniapoto heritage.  A week ago he suffered serious head injuries and four days ago lost his fight to live.

His tangi hasn't been smooth sailing, his family say it's been interrupted with media, police and other agencies inquiries who they say don't understand the protocol of tangihanga.

So they invited Native Affairs to the tangi to show they're not hiding, they're just grieving.
