Native Affairs - Ikaroa-Rāwhiti Debate Special

Live from Te Poho o Rāwiri Marae in the heart of Kaiti, Gisborne the four front runners in the Ikaroa-Rāwhiti By-Election went head to head to get their name at the top of voters picks in the upcoming by-election.

Meka Whaitiri from the Labour Party, Te Hamua Nikora from the Mana Party, Marama Davidson from the Green Party and Na Raihania from the Maori Party all participated in this Native Affairs special.

Ikaroa-Rāwhiti is the second largest Māori electorate and covers over 30,952 square kilometres.

From the clamouring confines of its urban centres to the quiet isolation of its rural settlements Ikaroa-Rāwhiti is a rohe of extremes. Native Affairs wanted to get a feel for what's happening on the ground in the electorate.

So we sent our reporter Jodi Ihaka on a road trip through the hearty Ikaroa- Rāwhiti.
