Native Affairs - Kōwhiri 14, Waiariki Part 1

In 19 days, voters across the country will have the opportunity to make sure the hopes and desires of their whānau are represented in the next Parliament.

Tonight on Native Affairs-Kōwhiri 14, the leading Waiariki candidates go head-to-head and we reveal the results of the Māori Television Reid Research Poll.

Three candidates who want to win your vote have joined Mihingarangi Forbes in studio, namely Te Ururoa Flavell of the Māori Party, Annette Sykes of the MANA Movement, and Rawiri Waititi, who will stand in the Waiariki electorate for the Labour Party.

At 19,200km2, Waiariki contains 10 main tribal rohe.

Native Affairs reporter Semiramis Holland has been doing a whistle-stop tour of Waiariki to get a feel for what people on the ground are thinking.

She asked the candidates how they are going to help local Māori businesses create more jobs?
