Native Affairs - Land wars

The battle of Te Tarata pā was just one of several events where various iwi reflect on the British military attacks that took place on their pā in the mid-1860's.

But should there be a national day of remembrance for these battles, similar to Waitangi Day and Anzac Day.

A group of students from Otorohanga College think so and have gathered more than ten thousand signatures on a petition they'll take to Parliament in December.

Three of them are with us tonight; Rhiannon Magee, Tai Jones and Leah Bell. We are also joined by Rahui Papa, Chairman of Te Arataura, the executive board of the Kauhanganui, the legislative council of the Waikato Tainui.
