Native Affairs - Snapper

Recreational Fishers across the country are outraged at Government proposals to slash their daily catch from nine snapper to three.

A review of the snapper fishery, the first in 16 years has seen a raft of proposals put forward.

To discuss the snapper debacle Mihingarangi Forbes is joined by the former associate Minister of Fisheries and avid fisherman Dover Samuels, Wayne Peters of Ngāti Wai Fisheries and Te Whakaminenga o Ngā Hapu o Ngāpuhi representitive, Bryce Smith.

But to begin our discussion, earlier today we spoke with Andrew Dobe from the Ministry of Primary Industries.

We begin by asking him what's happened to snapper stocks since the last audit in 1997.
