Native Affairs Summer Series – Koha Shed

For most of us, Christmas is a once a year event, but there's a special group of people that embrace the giving spirit all year round. The Koha Shed began in Whanganui as a place to drop off unwanted items and pick up something for free.

It means household goods, clothing, books and toys are being given a second life through a whānau in need. The idea has caught on, the Koha Shed now has centres all around Aotearoa and Australia.

Semiramis Holland hit the hokohoko where cash isn't required - and the only rule is 'when you step inside the shed, you're not allowed to leave empty handed'.
