Native Affairs Summer Series 2014 - Resthome

It can be one of the hardest decisions a family ever has to make: to put a parent into care as they near the end of their life.

The whānau of Merapi Estall Uangakore cared for their kuia as long as they could, but when her dementia became unmanageable they had no choice.

They entrusted her to Hillcrest Rest Home in Mangere, but what happened to their mother in just eight days has left them shaken, angry and upset.

Renee Kahukura-Iosefa has this report produced by Richard Langston.
