Native Affairs Summer Series 2014 - Still a Warrior

It's 20 years since the film 'Once Were Warriors' shocked the nation with its gritty portrayal of Māori family violence and dysfunction.

Since starring as gang prospect Nig Heke, Julian Arahanga has gone on to create some of our most thought provoking television including ‘Songs From The Inside’ and ‘Behind The Brush.’

To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Once Were Warriors, Arahanga filmed a documentary for Māori TV about the impact the iconic film had on Aotearoa and those who helped make it.

Jodi Ihaka caught up with the mataamua of the Heke whānau to talk about ‘Once Were Warriors - Where Are They Now.’
