Native Affairs Summer Series 2014 - Waka

Over the next 10 weeks the Native Affairs Summer Series will look back at the stories we have told in 2014.

Tonight, we meet a homeless hapū woman, we talk to the team behind the new Te Arawa newspaper Māngai Nui, and we meet a Ngāi Tahu Kai Crusader.

First up though, we take a look at something new.  Recently our Hawaiian cousins onboard the voyaging waka Hōkūle'a made land at Waitangi.

The crew are on a worldwide voyage, spreading the message 'Mana Mohunua' or protecting Mother Earth.  The journey is their biggest yet, taking three years, visiting 26 countries and covering a whopping 47,000 nautical miles.

Our reporter Adrian Stevanon caught up with the crew as they prepare to leave the Pacific for the very first time.
