New app has made Northland history more accessible

The history of Northland will now be accessible at the touch of a button, with a new app, 'Path to Nationhood, Northland'.

A new app for smartphones and tablets telling stories about some of the earliest interactions between Māori and Pākehā in the region went live today.

It’s a new age, and history is moving with the times.

People from around the country will now be able to listen to the stories, and to see visuals of many of the sacred sites around Northland.

Te Kenehi Turei says this application has been a long time coming, and their ultimate goal was to gather the valuable knowledge of those iwi in the North regarding their sacred lands.

This is the second application produced by The New Zealand Historic Places Trust, the first was produced for Waikato Tainui.

Ultimately they'd like this application replicated throughout the country.  The app is available online for free download to smartphones and iPads.
