Ngāpuhi swimmer Cameron Leslie wins Māori Sportsperson with a disability award

Ngāpuhi swimmer Cameron Leslie has been announced winner of the 2016 Te Toihuarewa Māori Sportsperson With a Disability award for 2016.

Finalists in this category also include para-athlete Holly Robinson and para-cycler Emma Foy who both excelled in their respective disciplines this year.

Leslie, a former winner of this category, won gold in the 150m individual medley SM4 final at the Rio Paralympics with a world record time of 2:23.12.

This is Leslie's third consecutive gold in this race, after winning at both the London and Beijing Olympic games.

In June he also broke the world record in the 150m individual medley at the IDM German Open.

Māori Paralympics who competed alongside Leslie in Rio this year include Emma Foy, Jacob Phillips and Holly Robinson.
