Ngaruahine settle historical Treaty claims

Ngaruahine Iwi can finally move forward after confirming that they will be receiving $67.5 million in cash and land assets as a part of their Treaty Settlement. Ngaruahine have a fully functioning post settlement entity ready to roll and first on their priority list will be to fix and restore their marae.

Treaty negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson is in top gear settling iwi claims at an expedient pace, and Ngaruahinerangi of Taranaki are at the fore today.

The total return for past grievances equates to 67.5 million, almost 3 million of that sum is land.

The iwi have already established a post settlement body equipped to receive the assets.

Their relative tribe, Te Ātiawa are the next in the area to settle, with their signing taking place next Saturday, estimated to be worth around 100 million.
