Ngāti Wai youth embrace their customs

Ngāti Wai youth have been called together over the school holidays in a bid to ensure that they are drilled and skilled in the language, customs and histories of their people.

A bastion of the ancient one, there was no better place than Whananaki to train the leaders of tomorrow. It's a time to feel the winds of home and hear the local histories.

This is the second in a series of language meetings run over the school holidays for descendants of the wider Ngāti Wai tribal grouping, giving them the opportunity to come together as one.

Tūkaiaia, the ancestral sea hawk, will continue to call to descendants to attend these gatherings.
