NZ takes first gold at Waka Ama World Sprints

NZ has won gold in the final day of racing at the Va'a Rio World Sprints.

It was won in the Women’s Masters section where NZ managed to win two medals in that final.

NZ also managed to haul more medals in other sections.

But it was thanks to Ngaire Pēhi in the Master V1 section, that NZ has their first gold medal at this prestigious event.

A few of our other singles paddlers did well, and also our teams in the 500m races.

Tahiti came wanting to show their dominance in the sport and they have, racking up their 20th gold of the competition.

Nevertheless, the Kiwis will be happy, winning medals in nearly every section at this World Championship.

No doubt these die-hard paddlers will take a well-deserved break as the next Sprints competition for most, will be the NZ Waka Ama nationals held in January 2015.
