NZ Women's Kabaddi named as a finalist at Māori Sports Awards

From a sport that has just started to take off within Māoridom, the NZ Women's Kabaddi have been nominated as finalist at this year's Māori Sports Awards.

They are up against tough competition for the title of Best Māori Sports Team of the Year, namely the Māori All Blacks and the NZ Women's Hockey team.

The NZ Women's Kabaddi team defeated all odds last year when they placed second at the 2013 Kabaddi World Cup in India.

The sport resonates with Māori and that's the reason many Māori are seen playing the sport.

The team are preparing to go to India again soon to compete again at the Kabaddi World Cup.

This is the first time the team has been nominated at these awards and their captain Kathy Keremete spoke to Te Kāea about this achievement.
