Octane Youth Health service to open soon

A new free health provider for youth called Octane Youth Health is scheduled to open soon.

Dr Cheryl Bollen says it was a project built on the basis that it would help free up the Whangarei Hospital Emergency Department and divert youth who were going there for the wrong reasons.

Treatment for drug and alcohol problems, sexual health concerns and mental health issues are crucial for young people in Northland.

Ministry of Justice figures show 34 people in Northland took their lives between June 2012 and June 2013.

Dr Bollen says that her greatest aspiration is to serve the young people well.

“Our desire is to work with young people to help them find healing in the fuller sense.”

Octane Youth Health Service will open its doors on Monday.
