Olympics Rio Day 4 - Olympic dream over for SBW

To Day 4 of the Rio Olympics.  France beats the Football Ferns, the NZ Sevens Men's team beats Kenya but loses to Japan and Sonny Bill Williams' shock departure from the Olympics due to injury.

Loss to Japan, win over Kenya, Sonny Bill out

An impressive try by Kenya's Collins Injera in the first minute, but no sooner did he receive a yellow card for a high tackle on Scott Curry, as a result NZ was awarded a penalty try.

Akira Ioane pushed NZ's lead out before halftime. By second half NZ were well ahead on the scoreboard thanks to Augustine Pulu and Gillies Kaka. Final score. 28-5

Japan clinched a win against NZ Men’s Sevens team, 14-12. But the disappointment didn't end there with Sonny Bill Williams incurring a partial achilles injury, seeing him out for 9 months.

Just recently Sonny Bill was named for the All Blacks side to play in the Investec Rugby Championship that kicks off next weekend, and this year he also signed with the Blues. Sione Molia now replaces Sonny Bill in the Sevens.

France kicks Football Ferns out of the competition

A massive defeat to the Football Ferns in their match against France, 3-0. France led on the scoreboard in the 38th minute. With no points to NZ in the second half, France continued to extend their lead with two goals by Louisa Cadamura. Ngāpuhi’s Amber Hearn was close to scoring NZ’s first goal in 85th minute. By then it was too late, France knocking NZ out of the tournament and the Football Ferns claiming ninth place overall.
