Online extra - Henare wins big at 'On the Mat'

Pro wrestler Aaron Henare was victorious at the On The Mat event in Auckland. Although his opponent Taula "Hiku Le'o" Fifita dominated most of the fight, it was Henare who fought back to take the win.

“To get out there to see all my family and my friends, see Auckland, see New Zealand out there it was just nervous straight away. I have never had so much energy before a match before. Picking up the win and bringing it back to my home town that was the first time I actually cried after a match," says Henare.

Henare credits his opponent, son of King Haku, Taula "Hiku Le'o" Fifita for his efforts. This was Fifita's debut match.

“I think the only upper hand that I had was that I had wrestled before, this was his first match and I had been wrestling since I was at school. The difference about wrestling in school is that you're not allowed to hit in the throat. I don't know if you can see that but my throats not feeling really good.

Henare says Fifita didn't hold back, Henare felt every single act. Organisers have confirmed another show will be staged in Auckland in January.
