Opening of Ngatamariki Power Station

One of the aim of the Govt is to produce 90% of NZ's power from renewable geothermal energy by 2025.

The opening of the Ngatamariki power station today will help in that objective, and was only made possible because of the collaborative efforts of Tauhara North No.2 Trust and Mighty River Power.

80,000 homes in NZ are supplied power from this site, which is highly significant to Māori.

The collaboration between Mighty River Power and Tauhara North No.2 Trust coincides with the Govt's aim to produce 90% of NZ's power from renewable energy by 2025, however, power costs continue to rise.

The site has created 450 jobs in the area.  For the owners of Tauhara North No.2 Trust, ensuring a return for their people is paramount.

This is the third geothermal power station in NZ and it operates on seven wells.  The balancing act for the station is ensuring the long term sustainability of the resource.
