Photographer Erica Sinclair launches kapa haka calendar

A passion for photography is apparent in Erica Sinclair's work.  While pursuing her art she has travelled New Zealand to capture performers of haka in their natural environments, and this week she launched her new project.

Erica Sinclair (Te Whānau-a-Apanui) had a dream to capture haka performers and turn the photographs into a calendar for 2015.

She has now launched the project which began six months ago.

Te Rāwhitiroa Bosch says, “The performers who bring the art of our ancestors to life, have now been captured in a calendar for the world to see.”

Based in Hamilton, Sinclair travelled the country to seek out the performers.

She first approached those who lived near her, like Tiare Teinakore of Te Iti Kahurangi.  Tiare says she was actually stoked to receive a visit from Erica.

“Out of all the performers around the country, she phoned me.  With 12 months in the year, she had to choose just 12 performers.  I supported the project because she told me that it's for our youth,” says Ms Teinakore.

For Erica, this is just the beginning.

“Next year, I definately want to make this an annual thing.  I already have all these ideas, I don't think I will do it quiet next year but in the pipeline, I'm thinking I'm definately have to do an idols version,” she says.

The calendars are available by contacting Erica on her 'Erica Sinclair Photography' Facebook page.
