Police attempt to jog locals' memories in Taiaroa case

A compulsory stop at the intersection of Tram Road and Tirohanga Road was set up earlier to help jog the memories of anyone on those roads this time last week.

The 67-year-old grandfather was buried on Saturday but so far there have been no arrests.

Detective Inspector, Tim Anderson was one of the officers at the scene of the Taiaroa shooting and says traffic was stopped today in order to engage with locals and anyone who utilises the road on a regular basis to see if any of them were able to assist in the investigation.

Police investigators believe people being stopped who may recall anything about that day could provide imperative information to helping find those responsible for the killing.

Taiaroa has been described as a family man, a father, a grandfather and if this man was a member of your family you would want to know who was responsible for their death.

Police are looking for a blue Jeep Cherokee that was in the area, and say at this time they are looking for one male suspect

Detective Inspector Anderson says, “the Jeep Cherokee after the shooting has come down Tram Road and gone up Tirohanga Road in toward Pureroa Forest, it was then seen in Link Road sometime afterwards, so we are still interested hearing from anyone who has seen that vehicle.”

Last night Police spoke with Taiaroa’s family who are appealing for the public to come forward.
