Police welcome record female recruits

The largest ever number of female recruits in a single Wing are set to start their training at the Royal New Zealand Police College.

Coinciding with International Women's Day, police have announced 42 female recruits out of 80 will begin their training on Monday.

Police say they're committed to improving numbers of women to better represent the communities they serve.

They've set a target of having 50 percent female recruits by 2021.
