Protesters outraged by Stephen Dudley outcome

Protesters marched through Kelston in West Auckland outraged at the recent verdict in the Stephen Dudley case.

The rally highlights their disgust in two court decisions where two brothers, a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old, were discharged without conviction.

They had assaulted 15-year-old Stephen Dudley, who had an undiagnosed heart condition, after a school rugby training which Dudley had subsequently died.

Stephen's parents Mona and Brent Dudley were not present at the march, but their many whānau and friends showed in full-support.

A blogger has written about the case and named the two offenders. However Te Kāea will not name the offenders as they have permanent name suppression.

At this stage, the Crown Law Office is reviewing the decision made by Judge Helen Winkelmann to discharge the 18-year-old accused without conviction.
