Rainbow Warrior anchors in Whangapāraoa

It's the first time both groups have met to celebrate oil giant, Petrobras, abandoning their plans to drill in the Raukūmara Basin.

The local iwi were grateful for Greenpeace's assistance when they sought to take on the world's third largest oil company and stop any prospecting for oil in their region.

Protests were sparked after the Govt signed an agreement in 2010 to allow deep sea oil surveillance in the region, without Te Whānau-a-Apanui's consent.

The Rainbow Warrior will depart for Stewart Island and is expected to arrive on Tuesday next week.
