Rangatahi intrigued by online Māori animation

A new online Māori animation series has become increasingly popular with young people.

"Ngā Atua Māori" was created by Kiwa Productions and Te Taura Whiri i Te Reo Māori and re-tells stories like the separation of Rangi and Papa for a modern audience.

According to Steven Renata from Kiwa Productions it's the future of storytelling. “It's using technology in a whole new way, its forward thinking,” says Mr Renata.

Jayden Blair says, “I think it was pretty cool to finally see that they've made a Māori comic and to help us kids to learn about our culture through the story.”

Steven’s next project is bringing Māori goddesses to life by telling the stories of Papatūānuku, Hineahuone and Hinenuitepō.
