Northland firemen deployed to Oz fires

Victoria is feeling the heat and now Australia is calling out to a group of Northland firemen to lend a helping hand.

The Northland Forest Protection managing director Kevin Ihaka and four of his team will join a 44-strong contingent from NZ.

“We received the call earlier in the week to go to Victoria.”

Kevin believes his team will head to work in Gippsland, East Melbourne.

The team is expected to feel high temperatures and strong winds but their biggest hazard will be the risk of falling trees.

The team from Northland leaves for Australia tomorrow and may be in Gippsland for three weeks.
