Rereātea - Midday News Bytes 24 September

Reporters Wikitōria Day and Wepiha Te Kanawa bring you today's latest news direct from the Māori Television newsroom.

In today's news:

The Junior English & Māori sections are being held today at the National Manu Kōrero competition in Porirua, Wellington.  A livestream is being hosted on hakatv.com for those who can't be there in person.

The Born To Dance premiere took place in Auckland last night, a huge red carpet affair which saw the movie's actors & crew attend, including Tia-Taharoa Maipi, Stan Walker, Tammy Davis, Parris Goebel, P Money and more.

The masses were welcomed into the theatre by Tainui iwi, and were entertained by Stan Walker before the movie commenced in the packed-out theatres.

As the film was shown at the Toronto Film Festival just last week, director Tammy Davis spoke to Wepiha Te Kanawa earlier who said, "There is something special about it.  There's wairua in there, there's heart in there and that's what you see, and that's what the people in Toronto saw and that's why they loved it.  That's what I believe anyway.”

Both Wikitōria and Wepiha have scored the movie a healthy 8 "little dancers" out of 10!

Tune in to Te Kāea later today at 5:30pm with live subtitles, and 7pm (repeat).
