Rhodes returns home for Italian opera Lucia di Lammermoor

It's a voice that has captivated audiences not only in New Zealand but around the world for more than a decade.

Phillip Rhodes (Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Kahungunu) says it's great to be home and catching up with family after last visiting two years ago.

He's back in his hometown after being based in Wales where he's lived for the last six years with his wife and two children.

While he's here he'll be working with NZ Opera and the Auckland Opera Studio.

Spotted by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa in 2007 after winning the prestigious Lexus Song Quest, she has been there for him ever since.

So to earn his place on stage next to her was a huge honour.

His performance as Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor will feature at the Mercury Theatre in Auckland from October 10-12, but there'll be little time for rest as he heads straight back to London to rehearse for more new roles.
