Search for missing Northland diver steps up a notch

The search for a recreational diver lost off the Northland coast stepped up a level today at the arrival of the police dive team to Waipapa beach.

Police Search and Rescue Spokesperson, Cliff Metcalfe says, “We've located another dive glove this morning along the beach washed up.  So signs are that although we haven't found him he's certainly out there somewhere.”

A day has now passed since the 25-year-old diver of Māori descent went missing and so far there have been no sightings of him.

Due to the brilliant summer weather, crowds are flocking to the beach which has meant the local search and rescue team were kept busy.

The head of this operation anticipates that this won't be their last search and rescue operation this summer.
