Sir Ngātata sentenced to jail

Sir Ngātata Love has been sentenced to two and half years imprisonment.

On September 1 this year Sir Ngātata Love was found guilty of obtaining property by means of deception at the High Court in Wellington.

The first charge related to obtaining property by means of deception. The second was obtaining a secret commission while he was Chair of the Wellington Tenths Trust. These charges relate to a venture the Tenths Trust undertook involving the development of land situated at Pipitea Street, Thorndon.

The Crown's case included that $3 million was used as part of a property deal to pay down the mortgage on a beach house in Plimmerton for Dr Love and his partner Lorraine Skiffington.
