Slim sentencing for Charlie Ngapera

32-year-old Charlie Ngapera was sentenced to two years and seven months in jail for a number of charges including kidnapping, assault and reckless driving.

In August this year, he threatened his ex-partner with a butcher's knife during a violent domestic dispute. She then fled the house leaving her son with Ngapera.

What ensued was a high speed police chase crashing through orchards before abandoning the car in Whakatū, with his son unrestrained in the car the whole time.

The judge called his actions an appalling state of affairs.  He has also been disqualified from driving for 12 months.
