Staggering $120,000 raised by Relay for Life

Hamiton's Ruakura was full of life today, every outfit wackier then the next.

The 22-hour relay kicked off yesterday at 2pm and ended today at midday.

Many came to support the hard work the cancer society does, some came for their own family reasons.

Nathan Morgan flew over from Melbourne for the relay and to support his cousin.

According to Nathan, “Just come to support my cousin, she was diagnosed with cancer last year and she been struggling.”

Donations are still being processed, but the expected funds raised this year will well exceed $120,000.

It was evident to see an increase of Māori who gathered in support of the event and it’s hoped the number of Māori will continue to grow in time to come.
