Tai Tokerau Maranga Mai E Te Iwi - Muriwhenua

Muriwhenua was established in 2009 as a vehicle to provide community engagement in Māori Performing Arts for whānau, hapū and iwi living in the Far North area.

Established under the teachings of Chris Henare (Ngāti Kahu) and his wife, Sandra (Ngāti Kuri), Muriwhenua then qualified for Te Matatini o Te Rā in Gisborne by taking second place at the 2010 regionals in Whangarei.

Muriwhenua then impressed the regional crowd again to go away as one of three Tai Tokerau representatives to Rotorua in 2013.

Their tutor says that aside from their performances on-stage, they encourage their members to engage in tertiary studies and healthy lifestyles.

Here is Muriwhenua and their powerful whakaeke.
