Tainui Waka Kapa Haka Festival - Te Iti Kahurangi

“Whāia te Iti Kahurangi!”

Following on from their highest placing to date, Te Iti Kahurangi have returned to their roots to prove why they walked away with a Lion’s share of honours at last year's Te Matatini Festival.

The rōpū was established in 2003, making this their sixth appearance at the Tainui Waka Kapa Haka Festival.

Leaders Kingi Kiriona, and the current national Kaitātaki Wahine Korowai winner, Tiare Teinakore, have pushed the boundaries yet again.

Head tutor Kingi Kiriona says, "preparations for this festival have been good, although every year things can change."

“We understood that after Te Matatini, there was a high expectation for us to follow-up, but essentially," says Kingi, "Te Iti Kahurangi are sticking to their guns, staying true to what they've stood for since the inception of their rōpū."

Here is their new whakaeke.
