Tainui Waka Kapa Haka Regionals 2016 - Ngaati Maahanga Taipakeke

Proudly taking their first stand as Ngaati Maahanga Taipakeke, this team is eighth team to perform at the Tainui regionals in Hamilton today.

With aspirations to teach their younger generations the genealogy and histories of Ngaati Maahanga, this group was established to bring those generations home and pass down the knowledge.

Under the guidance of Milton Ngaruhe, Travis Taiapa and Pakekuhukuhu Anderson the groups key themes are about revisiting the traditional songs of Ngaati Maahanga and staunchly maintaining the style and language unique to Waikato.

This is the groups waiata-a-ringa titled “Titiro aku aū” which has a history that stretches back to the 1930-40s, a song their ruruhi and koreheke sang in support of the Kingitanga.
