Taura Whiri i te Reo team up with Plunket for Māori Language Week 2015

For Māori Language Week 2015, Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (Māori Language Commission) and Plunket have partnered up in support of this year’s theme, “Whāngaihia te reo ki ngā mātua” – Nurture the Language in Parents.

Māori language resources have been developed by Te Taura Whiri to encourage and support every day Māori language use for parents and caregivers with children.

This week, Plunket and Te Taura Whiri will host a play-group session with parents to help introduce the new resources.

Acting Chief Executive Tuehu Harris says, "For the language to thrive, it needs to be used regularly and meaningfully.  This year’s theme uses phrases that provide instant and natural examples of verbal Māori language for use by parents and caregivers with children, such as "Haramai, e te tau" (Come here my darling) and "Kaua e tangi e te tau" (Don’t cry, my darling).”

Māori Language Week this year runs from 27 July – 2 August 2015.
