Tauranga whānau moves out of tent

The car is packed to the roof, after a mother who was forced to live here in a tent was finally provided with a home.

However, her message remains clear: there are NZers out there who are really struggling.

Kylie, whose children are aged between 2 and 11, posted her concerns on Facebook about her situation and how hard it was to apply for a home in Tauranga.

There were over 360 comments on her post, one of which came from the office of Te Waiariki MP Te Ururoa Flavell.

Since December, Kylie has stayed here on these grounds with her family, but she says they weren't the only ones here, as another family was also living here.

Kylie and her family are looking forward to moving into the rental property provided to them by Housing NZ, but the question remains, just how many NZers are currently without housing?
