Te Aupouri win Open Women's section at Maori Touch Tournament

It was an even but exciting final for the Open Women at the Maori Touch Tournament in Rotorua over the weekend.

While the tournament was held in a different location from previous years, it was old foes Te Aupouri against Tāmaki Makaurau who were up against each other in the final.

It was the best start for Te Aupouri, a try in the first thirty seconds of the game.

Te Aupouri kept the pressure on and scored again twice.

However, the opposition maintained their belief and crossed over for their first try halfway through the first half.

It was an even contest in the second, Te Aupouri scoring and then Auckland returning the favour.

It was so close in fact, that the score was five a piece at full time, time for drop off.

In the end it was Te Aupouri who rose to the top winning 6-5 to take the prestigious title.
