A New Zealand contingent is currently in Russia competing at the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships.
The competition started on September 2 and ends this Saturday. The competition has attracted more than 420 boxers from 57 countries.
Boxing New Zealand has a team of 8 boxers competing, Te Kapotai Tohu from New Plymouth is one, he fights in the 75kg category and won a unanimous decision fight over Hungary and advances to the top 8.
If Tohu wins his next fight against Algeria, he will win a bronze medal. This would be the first time a junior male boxer from New Zealand has won a medal at the World Championships.
