Gallery: Te Reo a key element for Manukura at National Secondary School Touch comp

The National Secondary School Touch Competition has attracted talent from around the country who are not only promoting fitness, health and well being but te reo me ōna tikanga.

One school in particular following this philosophy is Manukura a team utilising Te Reo Maori on the field as a means of communication, led by head coach Brett Cribb, who has instilled the four foundations that his team uphold.

Brett Cribb told Te Kāea that “Whakapapa, Te Reo, Tikanga and Wairua” are what leads his team.

He says, “the language guides us on how to speak to each other and how to portray ourselves, our policies, our protocols, our expectations and our way are the things that drive us, keeps us real, and the one thing we hope to reward.”

They are a satellite school under their Tuakana Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rito.

Hone Haunui-Rapana will have more details tonight on Te Kāea at 5:30 and 7pm with subtitles.
