Te Tai Tokerau MP walking the walk

Te Tai Tokerau MP Kelvin Davis is embarking on a journey which will see him traverse the length of his electorate in a stand against sexual violence.

Davis says, "The problem is huge but 95% goes unreported which is why we're encouraging people to speak out.  Sexual violence is a major driver of youth suicide, educational under achievement, robs people of potential and opportunity and destroys whakapapa."

Massive, which stands for Men Against Sexual Violence, is calling on support from all facets of society.

"Sexual violence doesn't just affect women.  Men also experience sexual violence (1 in 8).  There is never enough funding for sexual violence agencies.  What we need is for survivors to tell someone, bystanders to intervene and perpetrators to get help before they harm," says Davis.

Davis will launch the Massive hīkoi on May 29 from West Auckland and end at Cape Reinga on June 14.
