Te Teko Racecourse event helps boost local Māori land trust

It's a day that brings together the racing community in the Eastern Bay of Plenty to showcase its best talent.

But for the Putauaki Māori Land Trust, one of the cup race sponsors, today is about promoting their work.

According to Waaka Vercoe, “The Trustees thought they should get in on events that Pākehā enjoy, events like this.

It enables us to make business connections and get our name out there so that people know who we are.”

For the last four years, the trust has sponsored the event and says that no matter who wins their cup today, it's the trust that will come out on top.

Today eight racers in total are lined up but most here are only interested in the return.
