Gallery: Te Whakatōhea gear up for New Year's eve concert

Te Whakatōhea is gearing up to welcome the New Year with a special concert to top off its inaugural iwi celebration event, Te Taunga Waka Te Whakatōhea.

Stage preparations are well underway and whānau are already setting up their blankets and chairs claiming the good spots to catch all the action.

Acts including Ardijah, Rob Ruha, Whirimako Black, and Te Whakatōhea opera singer Ramari Sherman are just some of the amazing line-up.

The event is alcohol and drug free. There's loads of amusement rides for the youngsters, Māori art exhibitions, and of course plenty of kai stalls.

Organisers say the event is all about whakawhanaungatanga, the coming together of Te Whakatōhea.

Maiki Sherman will have this story on Te Kāea tonight at 5.30pm, followed by a subtitled version at 7.30pm. Tune in to Māori Television.
