Tennis and Netball stars meet for a friendly match in Newmarket

Aucklanders were treated to a rare tennis street match today between two of the world's top female tennis players. This ahead of the 2016 ASB Classic that kicks off tomorrow in Auckland.

Auckland's Broadway Newmarket drew a crowd of tennis lovers today.

Zach Newton from Te Arawa and Ngāti Awa was overwhelmed, “It’s crazy seeing these famous tennis players on our Auckland streets. I've seen them on television doing their thing, but to see them in the flesh is amazing”

It's not every day you see a Denmark tennis player Caroline Wozniacki and Serbian born Ana Ivanovic enjoying a fun game of doubles. Especially against some of our top sports women like Maria Tuta’ia.

“Actually they were good, they were quite good, I was impressed especially my partner, she played really well. But it's always fun to come out. I was a little bit over welled as I stepped out of the car there were a lot of people,” says tennis pro, Ana Ivanovic.

“It was fun, it's always great to get the crowed involved” says Caroline Wozniacki.

“I have really great memories of this competition and I hope I can repeat that success and get a few matches under my belt,” says Ana Ivanovic.

The 2016 ASB Classic kicks off tomorrow at the ASB centre in Auckland.
