Thousands of Kiwis sign up for Global CrossFit Challenge

The search for the fittest athletes on the planet began today, as the CrossFit Open revealed the first workout of the five week online global qualifier. Thousands of Kiwis signed up to join in the biggest CrossFit community event in the world.

Watching The Open work-out release with mates is tradition at the Manuel household.

Kevin Manuel says, “It's going to be fun, always a good time of year, everyone comes to a standstill the CrossFit community on a Friday afternoon - into it!”

Manuel who finished 17th at the CrossFit Games last year. He's one of 264,000 participants who have entered this year's Open.

“At the moment 16.1 to get through this one is my goal and then next week we'll go for 16.2 and so and so forth and we'll see how the season pans out and hopefully all goes well to make it back to regionals,” says Kevin Manuel.

The CrossFit Games now into its 10th year, has announced a 20 minute workout of overhead bar lunges, burpees and chest to bar pull ups.

Kevin Manuel says, “It's going to be a grind for 20minutes, I actually probably prefer that than 8-10 mins of this particular movements which means you have to move a whole lot faster so it's actually not too bad it's going to hurt a lot.”

It's a tough work out to kick off the 2016 CrossFit season, with no doubt another four challenging work outs to come.
