Tigers defeat Scorpions in Round 14 for Fox Memorial

The two teams at the bottom of the ladder went head-to-head over the weekend for Round 14 of the Appliance Shed Fox Memorial competition.

Both Ōtara Scorpions and Northcote Tigers fought valiantly at the Northcote home ground to avoid being relegated back a grade in 2016.

First try went to the Tigers with a great assist from Levi McBirney, allowing Eko Malu to seal the deal.

Then again to the Tigers, this time with Levi McBirney cutting through Scorpion defence for the second try of the match.

Backrower Norm Stockman ran 40m of the field then threw a swift back hand ball to Christian Ulukita who landed the Tigers' third try.

Half-time score to the Tigers: 14-nil.

17 minutes passed in the second before any sign of the next try.

It was Eko Malu who lined it up for Timoti Cook, bringing the Tigers to 18 on the board.

Fortunately the Scorpions managed to seal one try before the end of the match with Charles Leung-Wai dotting across the line.

Final score: 4-18 to the Northcote Tigers.

The Tigers will face the Pt Chevalier Pirates this Saturday, 11am at Walter Massey Park in Māngere, which will air later that day on Māori Television at 3:30pm.
