Top NZ retail stores take R18 games off shelves

The Warehouse and Noel Leeming retail stores are refusing to sell R18 games and dvds.  This comes with the recent release of the violence-filled heist game Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles.

CEO of Warehouse Groups Mark Powell says, “Every now and again issues pop up around different products, and the most recent issue that popped up was around the latest release of Grand Theft Auto 5 which has this first person functionality.”

While Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) broke industry sales records and became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, earning US $800 million in its first day, The Warehouse Group Ltd has made the bold decision to remove their existing R18 titles off their store shelves.

The Warehouse says they will lose around $500,000-$700,000 of gross profit per year by not selling the censored products. However CEO Mark Powell says it's a sacrifice they are willing to make.

It was a move carried out following increasing feedback from the wider community, their customers and team members.
