The largest theatrical show in the world, Cirque du Soleil, with its performers from over 20 different countries, has made its way to Aotearoa.

It's not everyday that world famous acrobats and contortionists come to New Zealand.

For many, it's their first time experiencing Māori culture.

Chef Charles Berghan (Ngāpuhi), who is touring with the Cirque du Soleil, says it means the world to him that the show has come to NZ.

As a Māori, he says he can now show his peers what NZ has to offer, that their experience here will be unique; something they won't get anywhere else.

A chef for 15 years, the most recent and exciting years have been spent on the road cooking alongside Cirque Du Soleil, giving him the opportunity to tour the world.

"I've been on the road for four years now, we've pretty much done all of North America, Canada and we've also been to Europe as well in London," explains Charles.

Cirque du Soleil is here in New Zealand for five weeks, and their premiere is on Friday 22 August in Auckland.
