Turia dismisses rumours of staying on as an MP

Criticism was rife in Parliament today, following the revelation that Tariana Turia may not be stepping down as an MP at next year's general elections. According to Shane Jones, John Key asked the Mäori Party co-leader to stay on, but Tariana Turia says the Labour Party MP is simply stirring.

According to Te Kāea’s political editor, Maiki Sherman, Tariana Turia says there's no truth at all to the latest rumour. She announced at the end of last year that she would step down at next year's general elections, and today she said nothing has changed since then. She also told Maiki Sherman there are currently eight members within her electorate being considered by the Māori Party at present as a possible candidate for the party in Te Tai Hauāuru.
